Kyobashi: DOBRO (ドブロ)

Summary: Beautiful Croatian food for a very satisfying lunch.

Kyobashi might not be as glizty (Ginza), busy (Tokyo) or fashionable (Nihonbashi) as its neighbours, but it is well known among gourmets as one of the districts in Tokyo which holds truly unique restaurants.

Some of the famous restaurants Kyobashi features would be Restaurant Sakaki (French-Japanese cuisine), SOFIA (Bulgarian cuisine), Isehiro (yakitori), Dhaba India (South Indian food), etc.

One of my most favourite restaurants amongst them all is DOBRO, which is the ONLY restaurant in the whole of Japan to serve Croatian food.

I absolutely love the food here - I have been here at least 4 times for lunch so far.

Upon entering Dobro, you are immediately transported to a different country. .

The interior of the restaurant is Eastern-Europe inspired, and the decor is a little gaudy (though I don't dislike it) - dim lighting, marble-walled dining room, marble stone steps, large mural paintings and antique carvings, glass displays of Adriatics paraphernalia, chandelier, etc.

During lunch times, DOBRO serves up reasonably priced lunch sets like braised beef cheeks in red wine and confit with risotto.
I heard that their lunch steaks are also very popular, though I have not tried it before.

The meat and sauce had a deep, rich flavor from the red wine, and the beef was so tender, you could pull it apart with your fork.

The chicken confit came with a rich, creamy risotto, side salad and a lone onion ring. The chicken was cripsy, tender and juicy - absolutely heaven.

While the food seems unique in Japan, it retains its simple but beautiful, hearty flavours.

I would 100% recommend this restaurant to both visitors and residents in Tokyo to try.

Dinner can be quite pricey, so it would be agood idea to drop by for lunch if you are available.
