Kyobashi: GG Co Cafe & Bakery

Located within Courtyard by Marriott Tokyo Station, GG Co Bakery & Café is a stylish but down to earth café serving great lattes, delicious baked goods and fresh sandwiches.

GG Co Bakery & Café offer a wide variety of drinks, and is one of the rarer non-chain cafes to have different options for your milk. (Low fat! Non fat! Soymilk!) Prices are very reasonable, starting from about 320yen for a small size brewed coffee (with 100yen coffee refills!), and 300yen for tea.

They also have seasonal specials – for winter, they serve specials like honey butter rum latte (440yen), hot fig milk (480yen) and roasted marshmallow mocha (480yen).

While not as hyped up compared to recent artisan coffee cafes in Tokyo, GG Co Café & Bakery is quite serious about serving good coffee – their espressos are made with LA MARZOCCO, a historical Italian maker of high end, hand crafted espresso machines.

Their TOKYO curry bread, filled with an original curry created by Tokyo Marriott’s head chef Shinji Shimada, is also worth trying. The curry is made by stewing ingredients like beef, carrots, onion and celery together with spices such as coriander, turmeric, cumin, etc.
The bread dough is made by mixing tapioca flour into plain flour, and is deep fried using vegetable-based salad oil.
The end result is a rich and flavoursome curry with a mild spice, lovingly enveloped within a crunchy-on-the-outside chewy-on-the-inside bread, making it a hit with both kids and adults alike.

The café has a warm, natural wooden interior, open seating area with high ceilings, offering a very laidback atmosphere with soft jazzy music playing in the background.
It is a little cold now but during warmer seasons, lounging around the spacious patio area (they got cushioned rattan chairs!) is a great way to spend a lazy afternoon.
They allow for dogs at their terrace seats, so you can occasionally see guests with their pets relaxing after a walk.

One of the baristas that I feel makes the best coffee there is Takaharu Yanagi.
He often enters barista competitions to brush up on his craft, and is very involved in the coffee scene in Tokyo. You know you will definitely be getting a cute latte art whenever he is around!

You can follow his Instagram at nocafenolife to look at his gorgeous latte arts, or to read up on his latest caffeine related adventures. .

Due the café being housed in an international hotel, staff at this café can communicate in English, so you do not have to worry about miscommunication preventing you from getting a good cuppa joe.

They also offer free wifi within the café, so it’s a great spot to bring your laptop and to get some work done while enjoying good coffee.
