Kiyosumi Shirakawa: Allpress Espresso Tokyo Roastery & Cafe (オールプレス・エスプレッソ・東京ロースタリー&カフェ)

In the past few years, Kiyosumi Shirakawa has been featured quite often on cafe magazines and blogs due to its high concentration of boutique coffee shops.

This coffee town is home to many third wave coffee artisans, such as US brand Blue Bottle Coffee, New Zealand's Allpress Espresso, Portmans Cafe and Arise Coffee Roasters

To be honest, I haven't been to all the cafes, but my favourite at the moment is Allpress Espresso Tokyo Roastery & Cafe

This is my to-go cafe whenever I am missing Australia.

Once a timber warehouse, it is now a spacious, picturesque log cabin cafe with their own inhouse roasting operations. Although the actual cafe area is small, the high ceilings and glass wall that enclose the roasting area inspires the feeling of freedom.

The cafe's interior is simple and thoughtful - part minimalist, part industrial with no unnecessary clutter.

The baristas are a friendly mix of locals and expariates.
Behind their cafe area, you can see their various equipment for their roasting operations,

Their carefully selected green coffee beans are roasted inhouse using using advanced hot air technology, whereby the beans are suspended in a stream of hot air, allowing temperature to be controlled with greater precision. The beans are therefore roast more evenly with no risk of scorching or tainting from residual smoke, giving it a cleaner, sweeter taste.

Service is straight forward and simple. Order at the counter, pay, find a seat and wait.

hands-down the best coffee I've had in Tokyo so far.
I suggest you order their cappuccino, cafe lattes or flat white, as it seems like their beans are made to pair well with milk.

My flat white was beautiful - smooth, creamy and easy to drink.
Once you try Allpress, you can never look at a Starbucks latte the same way again.

Besides their expertly-made coffee, vistors at Allpress Espresso Tokyo Roastery & Cafe can also enjoy freshly made juice, smoothies, and a small, simple but delicious selection of sandwiches and breakfast plates.

while food selection is small, it is fresh, wholesome and comforting
Other than amazing lattes/flatwhites, freshly roasted blends and single origin coffees are available for purchase for those who would like to brew their own cuppa at home.

Depending on when you go to the cafe, it can take some time for your coffee to come.
I usually go early on a Saturday morning, which surprisingly isn't too crowded.

On weekends, it tends to fill up during late morning - brunch time, and you may have trouble finding seats as they do not have many seats available.

take out because I can never get enough of allpress
I 100% recommend anyone looking for good coffee in Tokyo to drop by Allpress for their amazing lattes and fresh foods.

Just one thing to note before heading over - like most cafes at Kiyosumi-Shirakawa, they do not accept credit cards, so remember to bring cash along if you are planning to drop by.
