Ginza; Eggs 'n' Things (エッグスンシングス)

Summary: Gimmicky, whipped cream with pancakes on the side.

For the longest time, Japan has been under a Hawaii boom, and its citizens are passionate about all things Hawaiian.

Started in 1974, Eggs’n’Things is originally from Hawaii and has a grand menu of pancakes, omelettes, Eggs Benedicts, waffles, crepes, meat & egg breakfast combinations, as well as Hawaiian classics like locomocos and acai bowls.

Their concept is "All Day Breakfast", where people can enjoy "breakfast menu" at any time of a day.

In Tokyo, they are especially popular for their pancakes.

This time, I dropped by their Ginza branch in KIRARITO for my lunch break.
While I haven't been to other Eggs 'n' things branches, this restaurant is supposed to have a calm, 'classic Hawaiian' touch.

Smiling staff clad in Hawaiian printed shirts greeted us at the door.

The interior of the restaurant had a warm and welcoming island resort vibe,

The pancakes are topped with an overly generous mountain of whipped cream, as well as other toppings depending on what you order.
Some of the more Hawaiian toppings they offer would be toppings such as guava and coconut.

I got their most popular pancakes - strawberry, whipped cream and macadamia nuts.

After about 15~20 minutes wait, they brought this monstrosity to our table.
I would call this whipped cream with pancakes on the side.

Surprisingly, the whipped cream was not as sweet as I thought, and the overall dish was not too heavy. The buttermilk pancakes itself were not too bad, though I thought it was a little dry and bland.
I suppose that's why they serve their pancakes with that crazy amount of cream.

Their omelettes were pretty good - buttery and eggy.
It's quite different from Japanese style omelettes whereby the omelette is light and fluffy - this one was really flat but rich in flavour.

Their (Hawaii) website states that all their omelettes are made with three eggs.

For those looking for a healthier option, Eggs 'n' Things offer egg whites & veggie for 750yen.
Not many cafes I have been to in Tokyo offers egg whites, so I quite approve of this dish.

Taste wise, it was so-so, but I slathered a lot of ketchup over it to hide its blandness.
The overall dish was also very watery - it's not too clear in the photo below, but I think you can see that my egg white was swimming in its own liquid.

Overall, food wasn't bad but I thought it was a more gimmicky than actual taste.
Menu selection is good, but there was nothing particularly outstanding.

Nonetheless, it is a value for money option, especially in an upscale neighbourhood like Ginza.

If you are planning to drop by, I would actually recommend their omelettes over their pancakes - there are many other places in Tokyo whereby you can get better pancakes.
