Enoshima: LON CAFE (ロンカフェ)

Summary: Japan's first ever french toast specialty cafe serving delicious french toast and an amazing view.

This resort style cafe is based in Enoshima, a small touristy island about one hour away from Shinjuku, Tokyo.

It is tucked in Samuel Cocking Garden, a luscious English style botanical garden where visitors can enjoy a variety of seasonal plants and flowers all year round.

The garden organises various events throughout the year, with the winter illuminations and winter tulips being particularly beautiful.

Besides the beautiful flora, visitors can also climb Enoshima Sea Candle (Lighthouse Observation Tower), a symbolic tower that provides stunning 360 degree panoramic views of Sagami Bay.

During good weather, you can see Mt Fuji from the top, and occasionally even other famous landmarks like Tokyo SkyTree and Izu Oshima Island.

Going back to the cafe, LON CAFE is the first French toast specialty cafe in Japan.

It was a clear, beautiful day when I went, though as it was still February, the temperature was a little chilly.

Although LON CAFE had a beautiful terrace, the Boyfriend and I decided to take a seat inside in the cafe to hide from the cold, as also because the seats inside looked a lot more comfy than the ones at terrace (sofa vs wooden chairs).

The staff were also very kind to provide us with blankets.

Being a french toast specialty shop, the only options we had were french toast (not that I am complaining), so it didn't take us too long to decide what we wanted.

We decided to order their french toast with drink set (1000yen).

cafe latte and cappuccino
mine: banana caramel nut french toast
his: apple pie filling french toast
The french toast was warm and crispy on the outside, yet melt in-your-mouth fluffy and moist on the inside.

Both french toasts were topped with a generous serving of ice-cream and whipped cream, with the apple pie filling drizzled with chocolate sauce, while the banana caramel nut was garnished with chopped walnuts nuts and served with sweet caramel sauce.

It tasted a little like the french toast my mum used to make for me - the eggy type of french toast you would get from soaking the bread for a very long time - only more fancier, and grown up.

LON CAFE is by far my most favourite cafe for french toast.

Overall, I had a very beautiful cafe time with the Boyfriend.
I would definitely recommend this as a casual but romantic date spot - for their amazing french toasts, and their gorgeous view of the sea and Enoshima town from their patio.

They also provide special plate decoration (on your french toast) upon request for special occasions like birthdays and anniversaries.

It's a shame that this cafe is not in Tokyo - though I suppose part of its charm its sweet escape from the hustle and bustle of the city.
